If there were ever two basketball franchises that were seemed destiny for eternal glory, it's the Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics, two teams that have created a rivalry that has lasted for decades. A few years before Michael Jordan appeared on the scene and the much-publicized college rivalry between superstar hoopsters Larry Bird and Magic Johnson was shifting to the NBA, and wouldn't you know it, it happened to be the Lakers and Celtics who became the beneficiaries of the two legendary stars. Topps released their newest hardcourt product just in time to capitalize on the new rookies, and while collectors have strong opinions one way or another about Topps producing a basketball series consisting of 3-card panels, not many hobbyists can criticize the amazing double rookie card of Larry Bird and Magic Johnson flanking Julius Erving in the 1980-'81 Topps series. Presented is a pair of framed uncut sheets from the 1980-81 series, a complete set that features two Bird/Erving/Magic cards along the bottom line of one of the sheets.
