A few years back, just before the 2019 football season started, Mile High Card Company offered a 2107 Panini Prizm card of Patrick Mahomes graded PSA 10 like the one featured here, calling it "a good example to snap up and put away for the future." Mahomes had just completed his his first full season as a starter, posting an impressive 12-4 record with a league-leading 50 touchdown passes and over 5,000 yards passing. That should have been a signal to collectors that Mahomes was a special talent and that snapping up his rookie cards then would probably result in a hue payoff today. Fast forward to 2021; Patrick Mahomes has made two Super Bowl appearances, winning one of them, sports a ridiculous 38-8 record as a starter with 114 touchdown passes to just 24 interceptions, and his 2017 Panini Prizm card, a $200 purchase in 2019, has become the quintessential collectible of the most incredible young signal-caller to come along in a generation. Though he's got a long way to go to forever link his name with the likes of Manning, Rodgers, and Brees, Pat Mahomes is on pace to obliterate just about every NFL record a quarterback could hold, and the present value of this GEM MINT card will seem like an unbelievable bargain down the road, just as it was two years ago in today's market. Is there a more promising athlete in any sport to invest in? We think not!
