There have been several American athletes whose popularity transcended their sport and elevated them to the level of "cult of personality", but Hall of Fame legend Michael Jordan continues to take it to new heights, almost 20 years since he last flew to the rim with a thunderous slam dunk. The GOAT has moved on to team ownership and is now a solid member of the billionaire's club, proving that MJ's head for business off the court is at least as equally polished as his athletic prowess was on the court. His 1986 Fleer rookie card is the standard-bearer for the modern card market, though his reach is so diverse that even vintage card collectors consider the MJ rookie card essential for any world-class set. Perhaps it's just a fate that virtually every inaugural basketball set coincides with the introduction of a revolutionary player making his debut. The 1948 Bowman (Mikan), 1957 Topps (Russell), 1961 Fleer (Chamberlain) and 1969 Topps (Alcindor) collections each gave us the pasteboard debut of a hardcourt game-changer, so it's no surprise that Fleer rejoined the fray in 1986 in time to produce the most coveted rookie card in the history of the sport. Offered here is an eye-pleasing PSA 9 copy of Michael Jordan's famed rookie card. The centering is close to perfect, which is not a necessity to establish a PSA 9 grade but definitely makes it more desirable than examples that are a few degrees shifted, with bonafide MINT quality endpoints and focus and registration that are pristine for the issue. Prices for MJ's debut card continue to go through the roof with no end in sight, so you better secure yours ASAP.
