Though he made his debut in 1947 and won the National League Rookie of the Year award, Bowman did not include Jackie Robinson in their inaugural 1948 series. Given that the set is only 48 cards in size and contains just nine Hall of Famers, meaning a lot of significant stars were left out, you'd still think that a fledgling baseball card company would pull out all the stops to include a once in a lifetime baseball pioneer like Jackie Robinson. But Bowman redeemed themselves with the colorized 1949 Bowman collection, an assemblage filled with rookie and star cards of players that went on to Hall of Famer immortality. Though there may be more valuable and more celebrated cards, few baseball cards carry as much significance as the 1949 Bowman Jackie Robinson. Robinson's impact on the great American pastime is so profound that while each Major League team honors their respective heroes, all teams have universally retired the number 42 to honor the man who dared defy racial barriers. Robinson's 1949 Bowman card is not just a piece of cardboard but marks a turning point toward racial equality in American society. Thoughtfully graded PSA 8, this card delivers skillfully formatted centering with resonant blue and red colorization that exceeds the guidelines for the grade. Close examination of the corners affirms the grader's decision and the reverse is clean with deep red and blue print and a surprisingly bright white-tan canvas. A spectacular example that transcends mere card collecting.
