Just as his critics were saying that he was on the decline, the 32-year old Mickey Mantle responded with a 35 homer, 111 RBI performance in 1964 that left him the runner-up in the American League MVP voting. His performance did tail off from there, but Mantle gets to play the conquering hero one last time on this 1965 Topps card, a stunning PSA 8 example that flaunts a slightly bottom edge leaning central image with strong NM/MT corners between NM/MT+ edges. The image of Mantle in his follow-through is sharply focused.
