After a rather ordinary 11-year playing career, Cornelius McGillicuddy (A. K. A. Connie Mack) took the helm as skipper of the Philadelphia Athletics in 1901 and didn't relinquish the position until 1950, capturing nine American League pennants and five World Series Championships. That's a half-century with one manager! The presented Connie Mack single-signed OAL (Johnson) has earned a grade of 8 from PSA/DNA and has also been authenticated by JSA. For a man who spent virtually the entirety of his life in the game, there are very few single-signed balls from his heyday as a World Series winning manager as most examples known to exist were signed later in his career and usually appear on Harridge stamped balls from the 1940-1950s, while this one is from the 1917-19 time period. Nicely placed on the sweet spot in bold black fountain pen ink, its boldness and clarity is well-deserving of the NM/MT determination. The ball is double authenticated, approved by both PSA/DNA (with an overall grade of 7; autograph grade of 8 and a baseball grade of 6) and JSA with full LOAs from both.
