Of all the great sluggers that made a run at Babe Ruth's all-time home run tally, the one that finally caught him was also one of the most unlikely. Hank Aaron never had a 50-homer season, in fact, never came close. But he did routinely reach the 30-40 homer mark year after year and posted over 200 round-trippers after the age of 35. It's the combination of consistency and longevity that knocked the Babe off the mountain, and Hank Aaron's 1954 Topps rookie card is one of the most coveted post-war issues ever made. This PSA 5 example is a nice addition to any mid-grade set or for the collector that appreciates one of Topps' crowning achievements. A brightly pigmented and impressively clean surface goes a long way, but the near-perfect centering and endpoints that meet the specifications for the grade really seals the deal.
