There may not be another baseball card set packed with as many important debut pieces as the '49 Bowman series, and collectors have deemed the issue of Satchel Paige as the leader of the pack. This one earns an impressive grade of PSA 7.5 but it still feels like it's been shortchanged with almost perfect centering, incredibly deep color of the red and blue pigment in Satch's cap, and a vivid aqua-blue backdrop free of any stray print. The border is impressively white, the corners appear to be up to NM/MT standards and the reverse is problem-free. Even though he was well past his prime when he finally was granted the chance to appear against major league hitters, Satchel Paige is still considered one of the finest hurlers who ever lived, and a '49 Bowman card as elite as this deserves to be in every advanced collection.
