Like many "bonus babies" that join the club as teenagers and take some time to blossom, the pedestrian rookie season of 1954 gave way to a record-setting 1955 performance for Al Kaline, winning the American League batting crown at the age of 20, the youngest player ever to do so. Topps' second issue of Al Kaline is one of the boldest representations in the series and really brings the heat with its vibrant red and blue contrast. Centered slightly toward the horizontal left edge but otherwise at or above grade in other respects. A fine specimen for an upper-level set!
