Most sports buffs in the United States don't have a comprehensive education on the history of hockey like they do the other major sports, which is why a rare piece like this 1923 William Patterson card of Hall of Famer Howie Morenz won't catch a lot of attention but should. A three-time Hart Trophy winner, Morenz was one of the most deadly goal-scorers of his time, notching 230 goals in 345 games from 1923-32. The V145-1 collection is actually an anonymous issue, though it is generally accepted that Canadian confectioner William Patterson is responsible for its production, with the rookie card of Morenz as one of the key cards. Well-framed with a fantastic image of the prolific center, the card has moderately soft endpoints expected of a PSA 4 specimen but does not have the cancellation stamp that relegates most existing examples to a mere AUTHENTIC assessment. Less than 50 have been graded by PSA overall. A marvelous card for any advanced hockey collection.
