When the Bowman company jumped into the sports card world in 1948, they rolled out baseball, football, and basketball sets, but passed when it came to hockey. With only six teams in the league, two of which were based in Canada, perhaps they felt the sport was too small and localized in the northeastern United States for a hockey card issue to be a profitable venture. That left the door open for Parkhurst Products of Toronto, Canada, who created a crude but intriguing 105-card set three years later. The cards were not only unrefined in design, they were clumsily cut and packaged, but with hockey legends, Gordie Howe, Terry Sawchuk, and Maurice Richard making their pasteboard debuts, the 1951 "Parkie" set is iconic in its own right. The offered near-complete collection needs just 7 cards for completion and is extremely impressive with each of the cards PSA graded, led by #61 Sawchuk PSA 7 and 66 Howe PSA 6. The large majority of the collection is graded PSA 7 with the following exceptions: PSA 8 - #49 and 52 The Winning Goal. PSA 7.5 - #1 Lach, 3, 12, 77, and 96. PSA 6.5 - #29, 35, 42, 50, 101, and 104. PSA 6 - #5, 23, 37, 40, 51, 66 Howe, 71, 72, 73, 74, and 105. Needed for completion are #2, 4 Richard, 36, 56 Lindsay, 64, 87, and 94.
1951 Parkhurst High Grade Near-Complete Set (98/105) Completely PSA Graded
