Headlined by significant rookie cards of Turk Broda, Sweeney Schriner, Syl Apps, and Neil Coville, combined with prominent and exceedingly scarce issues of Eddie Shore, Howie Morenz, and King Clancy, the 1936 O-Pee-Chee Series D hockey set packs a powerful dose of depression era pasteboard capable of transporting even the casual observer back in time to when hockey was heavy on contact and light on helmets. With a poor economy following the stock market crash of '29 as well as the transgressions of war in Europe, gum cards were among the last items to be taken seriously. The featured issue somehow overstepped those boundaries and forged against the times with a startling product the likes of which hadn't been seen for ice hockey cards. Offered here is a partial complete set of 23 cards, just over 60% of the complete collection, and already it ranks #8 on the PSA Set Registry. The lead cards include PSA 6 graded examples of #100, 101 Apps, 104, 119, 122, and 123 C. Conacher. The Turk Broda RC, #97, is graded PSA 5.5 as is the rookie card of #105 Colville, and 129 Auriet is graded PSA 5. For a complete breakdown of grades and cards needed to complete the set, please visit our website for a link to the PSA Set Registry. This collection is being offered both as a complete group here and as individual lots, with the method of sale determined by which total is higher (the group vs. the sum of the individual lots).
