Willie Mays and Mickey Mantle were on the rise as a new breed of superstar to lead the post-war era, but Hank Aaron came a long a few years later without the same fanfare as the two New Yorkers, compiling an impressive body of work in the minors. Decades later, it would be Aaron at the top of the all-time home run leaderboard. The vintage baseball card market has proven to be a good investment over the past few years and the Hank Aaron rookie card from the 1954 Topps series is one of its leaders. The featured card is graded PSA 4.5 and while the grade is probably accurate from a technical standpoint, the overall appeal is stronger than some examples graded a half-point higher. Though slightly positioned toward the southwest, the endpoints appear to qualify for that extra half-grade and the rough-cut along the left edge increases the aesthetic. A very respectable card of an industry icon.
