There are few stories in the history of sport that personify triumph and tragedy like the life and career of NBA Hall of Famer Kobe Bryant. Drafted by the Charlotte Hornets directly from high school, Bryant was promptly shipped to the Los Angeles Lakers for center Vlade Divac. Although Divac was inducted into the Hall of Fame for his accomplishments both in the USA and abroad, Kobe's 20-year career with the Lakers led to five NBA championships in what has become one of the most lopsided one-for-one trades in the history of the game. His untimely passing in January 2020 at age 41 sent shockwaves throughout American society but his legacy as one of the top players in NBA history will endure forever.
