Offered is an extraordinary high-grade example of card the Willie Mays card from the extremely rare 1967 Topps Test Stand-Up set. One of Mays' rarest and most majestic cards, literally only a few examples are known to exist, and fewer still are the thick die cut variety (the form in which the cards were intended to be issued, as opposed to thin non die cut proof cards cut from sheets). The 1967 Topps Stand-Ups are one of the few Topps sets from the 1960s that make 1968 Topps 3Ds look common! To the best of our knowledge, this set was never actually issued to the public, though cards were packed in wrappers by Topps and a display box was produced. Only a few cards of each player are known to exist. This issue is printed on one-quarter-inch thick cardboard stock and has been die cut punched. The 1967 Topps Test Stand-Ups were designed with the intention that the player's head was to be punched out of the black background. Additional small punched-out pieces at the bottom of the card, when properly used, allowed the head to stand. This example has evidence of gum or wax residue on the reverse and is otherwise in EX/MT to Near Mint condition. This is an extraordinary example of one of the key stars from this unbelievably rare Topps test issue. Do not wait for another chance on this exceptionally rare treasure, you may never see it again!
