Closing out his career at #2 on the all-time home run list behind Babe Ruth, we can only speculate that had "The Say Hey Kid" not missed almost two full seasons to military service, he would have surpassed "The Babe" as the all-time home run king. The 1951 National League Rookie of the Year and two-time NL MVP stands tall and proud on this 1951 Bowman rookie card, graded PSA 6. While most of this special pasteboard's attributes match up well against specimens in an NM or even NM/MT holder, the clear centering shift to the left horizontal edge prevents the card from rising to those levels. The image of the 20-year old Mays is one of the sharpest and cleanest we've ever seen as many specimens, even in higher grade, show slight blemishes to the image that can be off-putting to collectors that tend to, understandably, be overly critical when acquiring such a high-profile issue. If you're not a stickler for centering, or even if you are but appreciate the incredible value this card offers, you will be very satisfied with this one!
