An intriguing relic from football, as it was played in the 19th Century, this was the public's idea of player safety. Made of hard rubber, the player would secure the guard by a strap and bite down on the plate, protecting his nose from being it. On the top of the guard is printed, "Morrill's Patent Nose mask" with a patent date of Sept. 29, 1891 on the back side.
