Last year, Mile High Card Company offered an A. J. Reach Co. advertising sign very similar to this one, promoting catcher's mitts, sold for over $36,000. And now we move 90 feet up the basepaths with this stunning example, a 1908 Reach Tin Litho Advertising Sign promoting first baseman's mitts, the only one we have ever handled. The front features raised and painted lettering touting the Reach Patent Moulded First Baeman's Mitt in the forefront of a beige backdrop, with an embossed image of their patented product and another of a player making a snap of a line drive with the mitt. The reverse is backed with paper, slightly worn and stained, with a string for mounting and stamped lettering that reads "This sign is one of a series and cost us big money to have them made. They are for our mutual benefit, and if you will take the trouble to see that it is displayed in a good place we know that it will increase your sales of Reach Sporting Goods. If, for any reason, you do not care to hang it up, kindly return it to us and we will put it to work elsewhere. A.J. Reach Company, Philadelphia, Pa." Who knows in what sporting goods store this once hung on, but it has been preserved for posterity in overall original condition and is ready to be added to an advanced memorabilia collection.
