Originally founded as the Syracuse Ornamental Company in 1890 by a skilled woodcarver named Adolph Holstein, the company produced very intricate and delicate woodcarvings that became vastly popular. So popular, in fact, that demand for product forced Holstein to develop a process where a mixture of wood, flour, wax and resins were poured into molds to mass-produce replicas of the carvings. By the early 1940s, the company had changed its name to Syroco and was producing novelty items of popular entertainers, personalities and comic-strip characters. In 1942 their most popular product to date appeared: Superman! It is thought that the Superman figurines were not produced for sale but rather as a promotional item for vendors and retailers of DC Comics. Production was limited to just 100 items, with only 10-12 being completely finished and fully painted. Offered here is one of the remaining original statues, brown in color with red logo and boots. The figurine has survived in astonishing MINT condition, with no visible chips or flaws. Intricate detail highlights the Man of Steel's face and hair, making for a tremendous collectible keepsake! Perfect for the advanced comic or Americana collector.
