Taken from an official federal government document generated between April of 1844 and March of 1845, the period which John C. Calhoun served as Secretary of State under President Tyler, this cut signature is done in steel-tip fountain pen and the piece measures 5 1/2" in length. In addition to serving as Secretary of State, which came between stints as a South Carolina Senator, Calhoun served as Vice President under John Quincy Adams and Andrew Jackson. The signature remains quite strong and the cut parchment paper shows no rips or tears. LOA James Spence Authentication (JSA).
