Throughout NFL history, legendary quarterbacks have rallied their respective teams to greatness, each with unprecedented strengths, and inevitable weaknesses. Whether it's the scrambling ability of Fran Tarkenton, accuracy of Joe Montana, lightning quick release of Dan Marino, or unwavering discipline of Roger Staubach, just to name a few, the immortals are always remembered for the traits that made them great. The discussion of who was the NFLs greatest is one that will forever remain conjecture, but if you took the best attributes of every great signal-caller to build the perfect quarterback, he would most closely resemble Denver Broncos gunslinger John Elway.
The only quarterback ever to play in five Super Bowls, Elway was the complete package, possessing a large 6'3" frame, superior running ability, and a stubborn, unwavering desire to win. And then there was that arm! As if manufactured by Smith & Wesson, it was said that Elway’s rocket-like throws were so powerful that the Broncos trio of talented receivers, dubbed "The Three Amigos", wore extra upper body padding to protect themselves from injury. When Elway wasn't firing bullets downfield, he would tuck the ball and run like a power halfback, proudly taking on defenders and fighting for that extra yard. And when trailing in the 4th quarter, few quarterbacks in NFL history engineered more game winning drives than John Elway.
Presented is a 1994 game-used Denver Broncos jersey, worn by legendary quarterback John Elway. This white mesh throwback style jersey contains the “NFL 75” diamond patch, issued during the ’94 season to commemorate the NFL’s 75 anniversary. Wilson exclusivity label and size 48 flag are stitched onto the front left tail. LOA from Mile High Card Co.
