Featured is one of the most alluring and imagination conjuring images ever produced of Tyrus Raymond Cobb. The featured photograph was unearthed when the grandson of Tubby Spencer a former teammate of Cobb rang the door bell to our office and showed this great photo to us. After much consultation with hobby sources well-versed in photography, we believe the image to be a Type 1 original photograph from famed photographer, Charles Conlon. The photograph itself measures 6.75" by 8" and features a slightly irregular cut along the right side of the photo. The image is of a smiling Cobb adorned with a period Tiger cap as well as a Detroit Tiger jersey, featuring the classic collared neck pin. The photo provides amazing depth and contrast with the perfect amount of natural shading to capture the ferocious Cobb in all of his majesty! In the case of this marvelous photograph, the focus is so empowering and goes so far beyond that usually associated with Type I images, that it captures exactly who and what Ty Cobb was, in every gritty detail! The reverse of the photo shows a typed "Ty Cobb" in the upper left corner (common for all Conlon photographs) as well as extraneous pencil notations and the remnants of the brown paper bag caption for publication purposes. The reverse does not have a Colon stamp present, although enough factors are present for us to reach our conclusion that this is indeed an original Conlon photograph. In addition to the scintillating image, Cobb has struck the surface of this special collectible with a perfect salutation that reads " Very Truly, Ty Cobb." The autograph appears as though it was given to someone for whom Cobb had affection and clearly respected, and that would be his former teammate, Tubby Spencer. The autograph is perfectly scripted with the signature underscore flamboyantly trumpeting the sincere best wishes of the enigmatic star and rating a solid "9" if not "10." An opportunity to acquire what may be one of the finest signed Type 1 photographs of Cobb in existence, offered with absolutely airtight provenance from a former teammate.
