T206 Honus Wagner Sells For World Record $1.98M, Pacing Night of Extraordinary Sales in Mile High Card Company April Auction
Castle Rock, CO – “The Flying Dutchman” returned to Mile High Card Company for the 6th time in the last 5 years as a T206 Honus Wagner PSA AUTHENTIC hit the auction block and sold for $1,980,000 in the MHCC April Auction, setting a new record for an AUTHENTIC grade. “With each Mile High Card Company sale of a T206 Wagner, a new mark is established within the hobby. We’re grateful for the opportunity to have sold such an iconic card, but equally pleased with the results of many other high-profile pieces in this auction”, said MHCC CEO and President Brian Drent.
The April MHCC auction was loaded with world-class cards and complete sets, including a 1933 Goudey Completely Graded Set with 5.016 GPA that was broken up and sold for a total of $192,367, 1952 Topps Complete Set Completely PSA Graded with 6.013 GPA that includes a sharp #311 Mickey Mantle PSA 3 that took in $208,555, a 1955 Topps #123 Sandy Koufax PSA 9 MINT landing at $224,032, 1971 Topps Complete Set Completely PSA Graded #7 PSA Set Registry 8.014 GPA that earned $165,355, 1909-11 T206 El Principe De Gales Ty Cobb Portrait Red PSA 6 EX-MT fetching $62,312, 1910 Tip Top Bread Honus Wagner Pittsburgh Pirates PSA Authentic that hammered at $22,012, 1933 Goudey #144 Babe Ruth SGC 4 VG-EX selling for $25,872, 1934 Goudey #61 Lou Gehrig PSA 7 NM that sold for $27,862, 1934 Goudey Premiums R309-1 Babe Ruth PSA 4 VG-EX MBA Silver Diamond that took in a world-record $16,261, 1953 Topps #220 Satchell Paige PSA 8 NM-MT that sold for $19,467, also a new world-record, 1956 Topps Gray Back #135 Mickey Mantle PSA 8 NM-MT fetching $15,879, 1958 Topps #47 Roger Maris PSA 9 MINT taking in $17,680, 1968 Topps 3-D Boog Powell PSA 6 EX-MT obliterating the previous record sale with a price of $9,306, 1976 Topps #330 Nolan Ryan PSA 10 GEM MINT that closed at $39,207, 1962 Mars Attacks #1 The Invasion Begins PSA 8 NM-MT, one of the most coveted non-sports card in the hobby, that sold for $15,544 and a 1967 Topps Wacky Packs #38 Cracked Animals Die-Cut PSA 7 NM, one of the rarest cards in the entire series, that saw spirited bidding before finishing at $10,024. Advanced T206 collectors took advantage of the opportunity to acquire a trio of examples featuring the scarce Drum reverse: a 1909-11 T206 Drum 350/25 Rube Kroh PSA 3 VG The Only One Ever Graded By PSA, went for $7,530, 1909-11 T206 Drum 350/25 Jack Barry Philadelphia PSA 3 VG took down $8,283, and a 1909-11 T206 Drum 350/25 Solly Hoffman "St. Louis Find" PSA 3 VG The Only Example Ever Graded by PSA, sold for $8,283.
