Authentic T206 Honus Wagner Sets World Record $1.968M in Mile High Card Company September Auction


Castle Rock, CO - Mile High Card Company completed their fifth sale since 2019 of a legendary T206 Honus Wagner card and once again hauled in a record-breaking sum with a price of $1.968M. The Exceptionally Attractive 1909-11 T206 Sweet Caporal 150/25 Honus Wagner PSA Authentic (Restored) received very spirited bidding from the first moment the auction opened into the extended bidding period, nearly becoming the first AUTHENTIC specimen to cross the $2 million dollar threshold. “We’re not surprised at the result,” said MHCC CEO and President Brian Drent, “given the magnificent eye appeal of the piece. We have the most knowledgeable customer base in the business and they understood what a golden opportunity this was.” The auction ran from August 23rd through September 7th.

Two other examples from the breakup of the 1967 Wacky Packs collection posted record prices as well; 1967 Topps Wacky Packs #32 Ratz Die-Cut PSA 7 NM at $9,034, and 1967 Topps Wacky Packs #38 Cracked Animals Die-Cut PSA 6 EX-MT at $7,378.

Two highly significant game-used jerseys were offered in the September Auction: a 1971 Bobby Orr Boston Bruins Game Used Road Jersey Resolution Photomatch that astonished everyone with a sale of $167,491, and a 1967 Willie McCovey Game Used Road Jersey LOA MEARS A10, which landed at $17,235 after very spirited bidding. A fantastic selection of unopened material included a 1948 Leaf Baseball Unopened Wax Pack PSA 7 NM that sold for a record-shattering $206,017, a 1952 Topps Baseball Unopened Wax Pack 1st Series PSA 7 NM that landed $104,045, a 1954 Topps Baseball Unopened Wax Pack 5 Cent 4-Card PSA 7 NM hammering at $50,461, Exceptionally Scarce 1974 Topps Deckle Edge Unopened Wax Pack BBCE netting $5,325, 1974 Topps Unopened Wax Box BBCE that produced a sale of $11,688, 1975 Topps Unopened Cello Box With Hank Aaron On Top Of A Pack BBCE that earned $20,292, 1991 Topps Desert Shield Unopened Wax Box BBCE fetching $20,960, and 1959 Topps Football 1st Series Unopened Vending Box (Banded) selling for $30,240.

Two sets were offered both complete and as individual lots, with a 1966 Lost In Space Complete Set #3 On The PSA Set Registry remaining intact and earning $15,632 while a 1967 Topps Wacky Packs Die Cut #6 On the PSA Set Registry that was broken up for a total of $51,091. Other high-quality assemblages included an 1887 N28 Allen & Ginter Complete Baseball Set Of Ten (10) All PSA/SGC Graded that fetched $12,858, 1933 Goudey Complete Set Completely Graded that saw heavy bidding and closed at $112,255, 1934 Goudey Complete Set Completely Graded bringing down $32,523, 1955 Topps Higher Grade Near Complete Set (203/206) With PSA that took in $20,563, 1957 Topps Higher Grade Complete Set With PSA Graded Plus Checklists And Contest Cards selling for $17,730, 1959 Topps Complete High-Grade Set With PSA And Variations that garnered $13,228, 1974 Topps Deckle Edge Complete Set With PSA 8 Ryan that took down $14,446, and a 1975 Topps Exceptionally High-Grade Complete Set Nearly Completely PSA Graded that sold for $14,416. An incredible selection of original Type I photos were led by a Circa 1910s Ty Cobb Type I Photograph PSA Authentic selling for $5,483, Exceptional 1919 "Shoeless" Joe Jackson Type I Photo PSA fetching $22,001, and Circa 1950 Jackie Robinson Type I Photograph Used For the 1950 Bowman Image PSA Authentic turning heads with a sale price of $9,954. An Exceptionally Rare 2014 Pokémon World Championship First Place Trophy And Memorabilia Group was hotly contested before closing at an astonishing sum of $41,166.
