Originating from the archives of the Sporting News, offered is a stunning piece of original artwork from the king of sports cartoons, Willard Mullin. The famed "Brooklyn Bum" was Mullin's signature creation, a figure that came to represent the Dodgers as well as the entire Brooklyn community, which embraced the hard-working, blue-collar culture embodied by the character. The presented piece is entitled "the Diagnostician" and originally appeared in the June 28, 1950 edition of the Sporting News (a copy of which is included). Done in heavy pencil on thick parchment, the piece measures approximately 15" x 18" and has been subjected to the editing process for the publication, with crop marks drawn and two of the cartoon captions removed. Original art has seen an increase in popularity of late, and this item will make a tremendous addition to any Dodger collection.
