Not that Bowman was playing favorites but they did seem to have ulterior motives when they opened their 1951 collection with rookie superstar Whitey Ford and followed it up with Yogi Berra, who would be the season's American League Most Valuable Player, in the card #2 spot. Berra would go on to notch two more MVP awards in back-to-back fashion in 1954 and 1955 while establishing himself as one of the greatest catchers in baseball history. The offered card has the pedigree for inclusion in a world-class collection, one of just 5 specimens to be graded PSA 8.5 with just 7 graded higher, none of which has earned the elusive prize of a GEM MINT assessment. Three of the four corners have the characteristics for a MINT classification while the surfaces are problem-free and the centering, though just a hair toward the right side, is outstanding.
