Every hobbyist knows that card #1 in the inaugural Topps baseball card issue is not a star or Hall of Famer like Mickey Mantle or Jackie Robinson, but the rather innocuous Andy Pafko. Nonetheless, it remains an extremely important card for set builders, as being card number one meant being on the top of many a rubber-banded stack, and when high-grade condition became an issue for collectors, the Pafko proved difficult to land. And as we all know, difficult often translates into expensive, so if you're more in the market for an appealing mid-grade example, consider the offered PSA VG/EX+ 4.5 specimen, which shows a strong, vibrant image with lively colors, above-grade centering and a deeply impressed black back. A welcome addition offering strong visual appeal for the grade.
