1956 was the year that Mantle's incredible potential was fully realized, answering the long-standing question of exactly what heights "The Commerce Comet" was capable of reaching. By achieving Triple Crown status, Mantle not only cemented his name next to the great Ted Williams as one of the few icons to achieve the feat, he actually surpassed "The Splendid Splinter" in each of the three offensive categories, besting Williams with 52 homers, 130 RBI and a .353 batting average while also capturing the first of his three American League Most Valuable Player awards. It's one of the reasons that Mantle's 1956 Topps card is so amazingly popular. Capturing Mantle leaping against the outfield wall of Yankee Stadium, who wouldn't be captivated by this alluring pasteboard? The offered card possesses four corners that are easily worthy of the NM/MT assessment, none showing any signs of weakness, while the color and brightness of the near-perfect frame is thoroughly pack-fresh. The gray backed reverse is well imaged and void of any hindrances. A quintessential card for any world-class collector, with this particular PSA 8 example being one of the best we've ever seen!
