A trademark quality of The Topps Company was to make drastic changes from one year to the next and they did it again with the departure of the on-field action shots that defined the 1957 series, opting for close-up portraits and poses surrounded by assorted single-colored, bright backgrounds in the 1958 collection. The 494-card set features the pasteboard debuts of Roger Maris and Orlando Cepeda, with high-numbered All-Star cards making their first appearance, a tradition that would last through to the 1962 set. Due to many "yellow letter" variations, numerical checklists, and the famed "Pancho Herrera" error, the master set swells up to 536 cards. Presented is one of the finest 1958 Topps master sets ever assembled, over 98% complete and ranking #4 on the PSA Set Registry with a collective 8.31 set rating. Over 180 of the cards, more than one-third of the complete set, is graded PSA 9 MINT, including #162 Hodges, 288 Killebrew, 375 Reese, and 476 Musial AS. There are over 100 cards graded PSA 8.5, led by #487 Mantle AS, and includes #20 McDougald (yellow name), 90 Roberts, 310 Banks, 343 Cepeda RC, 351 Fence Busters, and 424 Doby.
