A throwback to the great American Football League, this rare robin's egg blue helmet dates back to the Houston Oilers' 1964 season, This classic piece of headgear sports the iconic oil derrick logo and exhibits outstanding game use, including numerous hit marks, scrapes, and burns. The original Riddell sticker is present, as is a custom cervical pad attached to the back. The "ell" in Riddell is in cursive font, correctly identifying it as a pre-1968 helmet. The player ID has been removed, but the one-bar design suggests it was used by a punter or kicker, possibly safety/punter Jim Norton, who used the one-bar format. Norton was the first player to have his jersey retired by the Oilers. The helmet was originally part of the renowned Duke Hott collection.
