Coming off of a season that saw him participate in only 65 games, "The Commerce Comet" returned to form in 1964 by notching 35 round-trippers while driving in 111 and batting .303, placing him second in the MVP voting behind fellow Hall of Famer Brooks Robinson. Unfortunately, the 32 year-old superstar would never see another "Mantle like" year after 1964, dropping to no more than 23 dingers in any of his final four campaigns with the pinstripers. This top-notch specimen from the under-appreciated 1964 Topps series has been graded PSA 9 MINT and is surpassed by just one example out of over 6,000 graded by PSA. Deadly-accurate corners and edges press the limits for GEM MINT classification on the front and come very close on the chip-prone orange reverse. Mantle's right batting stance is a classic, well-delivered and perfectly sandwiched between the bright red Yankees lettering and multi-colored nameplate at the bottom edge. The centering is just a touch toward northwest corner though it's barely detectable to the naked eye. A cornerstone toward assembling one of the best '64 sets in existence.
