After moving from Kansas City following the 1975-1976 season, the Colorado Rockies hockey team had a six year run in the Mile High City, relocating once again to New Jersey in 1982. As a result, game-used equipment from the long-forgotten franchise is seldom seen, with the occasional jersey being offered at auction. The featured item is an amazing glimpse into the past, a rare 1970's era mask of goaltender Doug Favell, who spent the last 2 1/2 seasons with the short-lived Colorado Rockies and is credited as being the first goaltender in NHL history to wear a painted facemask. Painted in the Rockies’ red, white, blue and yellow colors, the fiberglass face protector has a small leather patch and metal ring riveted just below the right ear. Game use is evident, with scratches, scrapes and paint transfer along with small cracks at the bottom edge of the chin area. A magnificent and artistic display piece, proudly representing an NHL franchise long gone. Please note that the mask has been photomatched to a full color corresponding photo which can be viewed on our website. LOA from Mile High Card Company.
