Joining the mass exodus of NHLs to jump to the fledging World Hockey Association (WHA), Boston Bruins superstar goaltender Gerry Cheevers signed a contract with the Cleveland Crusaders. “Cheesey” was one of the most successful goalies in the NHL at the time, compiling a 78-21-21 record while capturing two Stanley Cup Championships in three years. Cheevers quickly found that without having Bobby Orr and Phil Esposito as teammates, more of the pressure fell on him to carry his lighter scoring team. Posting a respectable 99-78-9 record in almost four seasons with the Crusaders, Cheevers returned to Boston, reuniting with his Bruin faithful and picking up right where he left off four years prior, going 95-37-29 the rest of the way and capping off his stellar career with a Hall of Fame induction, in 1985.

Presented is a game-used Crusaders home jersey, worn by superstar goaltender Gerry Cheevers during his 3 ½ seasons in Cleveland. Inside the back collar is the proper Rawlings size 50 tagging, with excellent game use exhibited, including scuff marks, blood stains, and team repairs to the front of the jersey as well as the “3” on the reverse. All identifiers and Crusaders logo are tackle twill stitched. LOA from Mile High Card Co.
