The conventional wisdom amongst many "old school" collectors is that virtually any baseball card dated 1980 or newer is a mass-produced "modern day" card not worthy of the paper it's printed on. While there is some merit to that thought for the most part, one glaring exception that even vintage collectors will acknowledge they'd happily add to their arsenal is a PSA 10 copy of Rickey Henderson's 1980 Topps rookie card. There's never been a convincing explanation as to why this card has failed to produce more GEM MINT results, at least not one we've ever heard, yet the results are conclusive; 13,287 graded as of this writing and just 13 have landed the ultimate mark of PSA 10. That's roughly one out of every 1,000 attempts. The rest of the set combined shows a GEM MINT success rate of 20%. Oh, there's plenty of PSA 9 MINT Henderson RC's out there; almost 1,500 specimens that virtually every elite level HOF rookie card collector has been forced to settle for. But if you have the means and all you needed was the opportunity, you've got it! This card simply couldn't be denied, a perfectly centered masterpiece with virtually flawless corners and edges that wouldn't allow PSA to associate it with the pool of MINT specimens, while reverse sidesteps the final obstacle to perfection by refusing to yield to chipping along its blue edges. There's no bigger prize emanating from the baseball diamond over the last 40 years than a PSA 10 graded 1980 Topps Rickey Henderson rookie card. Stop looking, start bidding!
