Just as Babe Ruth put an end to the "dead ball" era and Wilt Chamberlain so dominated the paint as to necessitate rule changes in basketball, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Joe Montana executed a style of offense so truly ahead of its time that it changed the very philosophy of how football is played. Bucking the conventional wisdom that a team must establish its running game first, coach Bill Walsh utilized Montana's skill set to create the "West Coast Offense" which emphasized a short, horizontal passing attack to stretch the defense laterally, opening up options for longer running plays and longer passes that can achieve greater gains. Montana and the West Coast Offense propelled the 49ers to four Super Bowl Championships, earning Montana the nickname “Joe Cool” and a place in Canton’s NFL Hall of Fame. Presented is one of the most recognizable garments in football history, the game-used jersey of San Francisco legend Joe Montana. The front left tail has the Wilson label with size 44 flag tag, with the “MONTANA” nameplate and numbers tackle twill stitched onto the front, back and sleeves. The sleeves have been customized, with an approximately 1/2” hem double-stitched on each with white thread. This is an incredible piece of football history! LOA from Mile High Card Company.
