Jerry Rice is widely regarded as the greatest wide receiver ever and one of the greatest players in NFL history. The all-time leader in every major statistical category for wide receivers and the all-time NFL leader in touchdowns scored with 208, Rice was selected to the Pro Bowl thirteen times, and named All-Pro eleven times in his 20 NFL seasons. He won three Super Bowl rings playing for the San Francisco 49ers and an AFC Championship with the Oakland Raiders.
Rice had a sensational senior year at tiny Mississippi Valley State, setting NCAA Division I-AA records for receptions (112) and receiving yards (1,845), with his 27 touchdown receptions established an the NCAA mark for all divisions. While his numbers were catching the attention of NFL scouts, Rice’s speed, or lack thereof, (measured at 4.71 in the 40-yard dash), had many teams wondering whether he could play at the NFL level, and only a few had contacted him prior to the NFL Draft. But San Francisco Coach Bill Walsh became enamored with Rice’s ability from watching highlight films, and proposed a trade with the New England Patriots. San Francisco sent its first and second round pick to New England for the chance to move up from #28 to #16, one ahead of the Dallas Cowboys, who reportedly was set to select Rice at #17, and effectively snatched Rice away from the Cowboys. After a solid but unspectacular rookie season, Rice blossomed into a superstar, leading the NFL in reception yards and touchdowns during his sophomore campaign and earning his first of eleven consecutive Pro-Bowl appearances. Before retiring in 2004, Jerry Rice led the NFL in receiving and touchdowns six times, while topping the 1000-yard receiving mark fourteen times, eleven consecutively.
Offered is a game-used 49ers jersey, worn by Hall of Fame receiver Jerry Rice during the 1994 campaign, when Rice led the NFL with 1,499 receiving yards and won Super Bowl XXIX. The jersey has the proper Wilson exclusivity label and size 46 flag on the front left tail, with all numerals and “RICE” name plate tackle twill stitched.
