Though a #1 overall selection that was highly touted out of the University of Tennessee, even the legendary Peyton Manning took his lumps as he adjusted to the learning curve of the NFL. While passing for over 3,700 yards in his rookie season, Manning led the NFL with 28 picks that resulted in a 3-13 record with the Colts. But the great ones catch on fast and Manning has posted 10+ win seasons in 15 of his 16 campaigns since. Presented is a Riddell Indianapolis Colts helmet, worn by future Hall of Famer Peyton Manning during his rookie and sophomore seasons. A four-bar face mask is present with an "18" decal flanking the center stripe on the back of the helmet. All padding is intact and in good condition while the clip affixing the face mask is marked "3 99", indicating it was replaced the following season, a common occurrence for QB helmets that experience the kind of game use this one shows. The Velcro patch that held the radio transmitter is still affixed in the left ear hole. An extraordinary piece that could easily be on display in the football hall of Fame! LOA from Troy Kinunen/SCD.
