Prior to the founding of the National Football League (NFL), different organizations experimented with ways to keep players safe from injury, introducing many variations of headgear in the early part of the 20th century. One popular piece of equipment was this Reach #4 8-spoke leather helmet, which features a chinstrap and one inch thick padding lining all points inside the leather. The Reach brand stamp and "4" are seen on the front and the helmet is in remarkable condition given its age. A fantastic piece from the early days of football history.
