Arguably the most gifted hitter in baseball history, Boston's Ted Williams' stock began rising before he even met the Green Monster. Playing for the Minneapolis Millers in AA, the 19-year old kid slammed 43 homers and batted .366, Ruthian type numbers that continued into his 1939 rookie season with the Red Sox; 31 round-trippers, a .327 batting average and a league-leading 145 RBI. And for "The Splendid Splinter," it only got better from there. Williams would go on to lead the American League in runs scored for five consecutive seasons (with a three-year gap in between for military service), win the home run crown four times and take six American League batting titles. Presented is Ted Williams' 1939 Play Ball rookie card, one of the most important and highly-coveted productions in the history of sports cards. Each of the four corners stands at attention, proudly living up to the high expectations of a NM/MT grade and the reverse is well printed with a deep black inked bio set upon a slate gray stock. Perhaps the most impressive characteristic is the clean and sharply detailed image, catching the slender icon post-swing against an obscured backdrop of empty stadium seats. An unquestionably fine NM/MT PSA 8 Ted Williams rookie card and surely deserving of a world-class collection.
