He's not the most difficult autograph or even the priciest, but Babe Ruth is such an unparalleled icon in American sports history that he's far and away the most coveted. So while Sigurd Berg was busy cranking out note cards and envelopes, scattering them throughout the U. S. Mail to all corners of this great nation, he figured "Why not try to land the biggest fish of them all?" It's well known that "The Bambino" had no qualms about stopping his routine to sign a few autographs for his adoring fans, but would he autograph a mailed envelope and return it through the mail? Apparently, the answer is yes. Postmarked 1946, less than three years before his passing, this envelope is graced with one of the most attractive Babe Ruth signatures we've ever seen. Graded PSA/DNA 9 MINT, the actual fountain pen signature is virtually flawless, clean and bold from start to finish. The only reason the autograph doesn't grade GEM MINT is that it appears Ruth didn't have enough ink on the tip of the pen and his first attempt came up very faint. Then ... perfection! An extraordinary piece of baseball history that can serve as the centerpiece of any outstanding collection.
