After dominating the Negro Leagues for two decades, Hall of Famer Satchel Paige finally got his chance in the big leagues in 1948. Even at a purported age of 41, Paige still proved he had the talent to play in the big show, posting a 6-1 record with a 2.48 ERA. Thought to be 45 years old when he made his Topps debut, this 1953 Topps pasteboard is nothing short of amazing, bearing the elite grade of NM/MT 8 as determined by SGC. This card shows outstanding centering and corners that push past the NM/MT level but the most impressive thing is depth and detail of the aged hurler, displaying extreme contrast in the flesh tones of Satchel's face, accurately registered against the sky blue background. A tremendously historic specimen in pristine condition!
