After his noteworthy appearances in the Bowman and Leaf issues of the late 1940s, appearances of Stan "the Man" Musial on baseball cards were confined to obscure regional food issues such as the offered Red Heart Dog Food example, graded SGC 92 NM/MT+ 8.5. Topps executive Sy Berger, when questioned about Musial's glaring issues from the company's early issues, said "he just didn't want to sign for cards." This one shows a deeply saturated red backdrop that basically matches the cardinal red on Stan's jersey, with a solid NM/MT+ or better perimeter and clean, blemish-free reverse. To date, just two examples have graded higher at SGC.
