Single-signed Lou Gehrig baseballs are incredibly scarce, and examples that carry an inscription are practically unheard of. A virtual polar opposite to the larger than life persona of teammate Babe Ruth, Gehrig was perfectly content to let "The Bambino" bask in the spotlight while he went about his business in unassuming fashion. Their personalities were reflected in the way they'd sign a ball for adoring fans, with Ruth taking a huge sweet-spot signature to Gehrig's demure side panel signings. Even when Gehrig was handed a fresh ball, he'd invariably opt for a side panel, assuming the autograph seeker would then approach the Babe with a fresh piece of acreage between the stitches. But it appears "The Iron Horse" knew that he was flying solo on this one, or perhaps it was for a friend or loved one and took the time to pen a note. In any event, this incredible Western League ball features a stunning blue-tip fountain pen signature of Gehrig with the inscription, "To Katie, may she always be the same, best wishes." Slightly faded over the years but clearly legible, this incredible sphere is remarkably bright save for some spotting near the stamp this in no way impedes upon the signature. A rare, incredible piece from one of baseball's all-time greatest! Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
