Cited as one of America's most notorious criminals, federal prisoner Robert Franklin Stroud, (A. K. A. The Birdman of Alcatraz) spent 42 of his 54 incarcerated years in solitary confinement. That left plenty of time for letter writing, and this double-sided letter, dated October 2, 1950, was inked in steel-tip fountain pen to his mother. Stroud discusses some fascinating content, including being witness to a 1919 meteor strike, and signed it "Love, Bob, Robert Stroud #594," his inmate number at the federal prison. Full LOA from JSA.
