In addition to being perhaps the most dominant pitcher of his time, Hall of Fame hurler Christy Mathewson spent a lot of his free time putting pen to paper to expand the public interest of baseball. In 1911 and 1912, he was credited for writing a series of stories called, "Baseball from the Inside," which were combined for publication as a book, "Pitching in a Pinch." But it was the 1911 book, "Won in the Ninth" that earned Mathewson critical acclaim, which led to several more books afterward. Presented is a phenomenally well-maintained advertising poster that touts the Mathewson novel, promoted as "A live story with live characters written by the man who knows more than any other about the men who are playing the game today." Indeed, many of the players on the teams that make up "Matty's Line-Up" are thinly-veiled references to some of the games greatest (Robb, Hagner, La Joy, Hollins, etc...). Of course, the real attention-grabber is the stunning image of the legendary pitcher right beside his name, all captured on a glowing orange canvas ripe with bold color. The piece shows some light touch-up around one corner, barely visible to the naked eye, and presents at NM or better condition overall, matted to show approximately 12" x 15" before being framed to a total size of 16 1/2" x 19 1/2."
