To vintage card set-builders, assembling a compete T206 set (minus the big four of Wagner, Magie, Plank and Doyle) is akin to climbing Mount Everest or completing an ironman triathlon. Well. we don't know many people planning to attempt the second two, but this collection of 477 T206 cards, over 92% of an entire set, makes the first part possible. Needing just 43 cards for completion, the current set rating stands at 3.82, ranking it #8 on the PSA Set Registry. With every card graded between PSA 4 and PSA 6 (some graded PSA 6 MK and PSA 5 MK), it's one of the most grade-consistently evaluated assemblages we've ever seen and the cumulative grade point average of the collection currently stands at 4.38, which brings the set into the top 5 on the standings if completed at the same level of quality. Included in this incredible group are three of the Ty Cobb cards, all graded PSA 4 (Portrait-Green, Portrait Red (Polar Bear) and Bat Off Shoulder) as are Walter Johnson (Hands at Chest - Polar Bear), Christy Mathewson (white cap), Ray Demmitt (St. Louis) and Tris Speaker. Two other Mathewson cards carry more difficult backs (Dark Cap PSA 5 - Old Mill and Portrait PSA 4.5 - Sovereign). Among the PSA 6 graded cards are Hall of Famers Baker, Bender (Portrait), Huggins (Portrait), Joss (Portrait), Marquard (Follow Through), Waddell (Throwing) and Cy Young (Glove Shows). Most cards carry the usual Sweet Caporal or Piedmont backs while others, though graded before PSA listed specific reverses on the flip, have a more difficult reverse. There are 18 cards listed with Sovereign backs, including examples of Crawford, Griffith, Marquard, and as stated earlier, Mathewson, with three showing EPDG backs and two American Beauties. A fantastic collection so close to completion, and the ultimate project for the elite collector.
