E93 Standard Caramel Cobb, Mathewson and Wagner PSA 9, T210 Joe Jackson Power Mile High Card Company’s July Auction.
Centennial, CO - Offering the strongest selection of early 20th Century baseball cards in years, Mile High Card Company is proud to present a truly incredible event, which opens for bidding on June 22nd and concludes on July 9th. “Collectors will be blown away by the tobacco and caramel cards featured in this auction, and that’s in addition to the usual material that our bidders are used to seeing. We’re really excited to find out what record-shattering results will come about this time” according to MHCC President and CEO Brian Drent.
Headlining the auction is a quartet of cards that stand as hallmarks of the industry. Ty Cobb, Christy Mathewson and Honus Wagner lead a group of 17 of the finest examples ever graded from the 30-card 1909 E93 Standard Caramel series. All three are graded PSA 9 and each is the only specimen in existence at that grade. A PSA 9 copy of Deacon Philippe is also being offered, making it 4 of the 13 total specimens from the entire series to grade PSA 9 in this auction. Several PSA 8 and PSA 7 Hall of Famers from the set will be listed, all but guaranteeing a dramatic shift in the PSA Set Registry rankings. “Shoeless” Joe Jackson’s incredibly scarce T210 Red Border card, AUTHENTIC, headlines a list of over 150 T206 cards, many ranging from NM to MINT with Hall of Famers and two of the three T206s on record graded PSA 7 with Uzit backs, as well as a 1888 N162 Goodwin Champions Cap Anson PSA 6 EX/MT, 1903 Breisch Williams E107 Willie Keeler GOOD, 1911 T205 Christy Mathewson NM and 1911 T205 Gold Border Ty Cobb PSA 6 EX/MT.
Of course, it just isn’t an MHCC auction without a huge assortment of elite specimens from the 1930s-1960s, and the July Auction comes through one again. A 1932 U.S. Caramel #26 Lou Gehrig PSA 6 EX/MT, 1933 Sport Kings #2 Babe Ruth PSA 8, 1934 Goudey #62 Hank Greenberg PSA 8 NM/MT, 1935 Diamond Stars #1 Lefty Grove PSA 7 NM, 1939 Play Ball #26 Joe DiMaggio MINT, 1959 Topps #212 Fence Busters (Aaron/Mathews) PSA 10 GEM MINT, 1964 Topps #125 Pete Rose PSA 9 MINT, and a rarely seen 1961 Dice Game card of Don Drysdale, the only PSA 7 on record and the highest grade ever earned for any Dice Game card, are just a sample of what’s to come, along with break-ups of the #2 PSA Set Registry ranked 1965 Topps Master Set, #5 ranked 1933 Tattoo Orbit set, #9 ranked 1935 Diamond Stars set, and one of the most comprehensive Pete Rose collections ever assembled, over 170 cards with a PSA 8.5 NM/MT+ copy of his 1963 Topps rookie card.
And although it’s baseball season, MHCC goes far beyond the diamond to offer exclusive items like a 1984-85 Star Basketball #101 Michael Jordan Autograph UDA and PSA/DNA 10, 1965 Topps #122 Joe Namath NM/MT, 1981 Topps #216 Joe Montana PSA 10 GEM MINT, 1986 Topps #161 Jerry Rice PSA 10 GEM MINT, 1951-52 Parkhurst #66 Gordie Howe NM/MT+, 1979-80 O-Pee-Chee #18 Wayne Gretzky MINT, and 1985 O-Pee-Chee #9 Mario Lemieux PSA 10 GEM MINT.
